Your Teeth Whitening Appointment is Confirmed! Here’s What to Expect.
Thank you so much for booking your teeth whitening session with us! We’re excited to help you achieve a brighter smile. Please read this document thoroughly, as it contains important information on how to prepare for your session.
Your professional teeth whitening treatment is the same one you would receive at the dental office, using the same strengths of gels and desensitizers that only hygienists and dentists can access. With over 15 years experience in dental hygiene, you can trust your smile is in good hands.
Preparation:
As soon as possible, start using Sensodyne Clinical White Toothpaste. Using this prior to, and after your appointment can help significantly in reducing sensitivity.
Eat a meal, and enjoy your favorite coffee or tea beforehand. You will have to wait at least an hour after your treatment before eating or drinking anything other than water, and 24 hours before having anything staining. This includes tobacco products and/or vaping.
What to Expect During Your Appointment:
Duration: 60-90 minutes
Appointment Steps:
1. Arrival: Your specialist will arrive, and review your medical history and consent forms.
2. Consultation: Your specialist will review the procedure, and answer any questions or concerns.
3. Whitening Procedure:
Placement of a cheek retractor and gum protection.
Application of desensitizer.
Application of whitening gel.
2-4 12-minute rounds of customized gel application, based on your assessment and unique dental profile.
Another application of desensitizer, and fluoride if required.
4. Post-Procedure: Removal of all items, rinsing, and application of a closing agent to remain on your teeth for 30 minutes.
5. Aftercare: Avoid eating or drinking for 60 minutes and refrain from staining foods or drinks for 24 hours. A good rule of thumb is that if it would stain a white T-shirt, avoid it.
Post-Treatment Care:
To maintain your whitening results, avoid the following for the first 24 hours:
Coffee and Tea: Dark colors and tannins can stain your teeth.
Red Wine: Strong pigments and tannins are staining agents.
Tomato-Based Sauces: Such as pasta sauce, ketchup, and salsa.
Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
Soy Sauce: Dark color and strong flavor.
Beets: Intense pigments.
Colored Popsicles and Ice Cream: Brightly colored sweets.
Dark Chocolate: Can contribute to discoloration.
Sports and Energy Drinks: Often contain artificial colors.
Curry: Deep yellow or orange color from spices.
Smoking or Chewing Tobacco: Significant staining risk.
Dark-Colored Soft Drinks: Such as cola.
Colored Sauces and Marinades: Barbecue sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc.
Spicy Foods: Can affect whitening results.
For Smokers: If you use tobacco, vaping, or marijuana, try to avoid it for 24 hours. If you must smoke, rinse your mouth with water immediately after.
Results and Follow-Up:
Allow your whitening results to settle for 24 hours. Your brightest shade will typically be achieved within this period. If you notice any gray hue, dark staining, or if you haven’t had a professional cleaning recently, you may require additional take-home treatments or another in-chair session. Please remember that results vary.
Note: If your teeth are already a bright shade, there may be minimal additional improvement.
We can’t wait to see your radiant smile! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out.
